The base of Aspen's Buttermilk Ski Area has some new and improved digs.
Recently celebrated at a ribbon-cutting, the centerpiece of the $23 million renovation is the guest services building. Aspen Skiing Co. calls it a "sustainable and intuitive one-stop shop" for tickets, rentals, day lockers and relaxing.
The company says the 9,000-square-foot building runs entirely on electric and, according to The Aspen Times, is the creation of a partnership with Aspen CORE. The local nonprofit's mission is leading the Roaring Fork Valley to a carbon-free future.
The same ethic reportedly went into the Buttermilk Mountain Lodge, which replaces the former restaurant called Bumps. The expanded, reimagined venue comes with a heated, scenic patio called The Backyard. Aspen Skiing Co. has billed the space for elevated drinks and food and live music on Saturdays through mid-March.
Save for the construction of a kids center, Buttermilk's base has largely stayed the same for nearly three decades, The Aspen Times noted.
Of Aspen Snowmass's four ski areas, Buttermilk is known for hosting beginners and freestyle athletes.
