Hot days of summer might be lingering, but many Coloradans are already looking ahead to a winter spent on the slopes. And as locals know, now is the time to purchase lift tickets and start to solidify winter plans.

Sure to stoke the hype of winter season, Vail Resorts has officially announced their opening dates for four Colorado resorts, along with a tentative date for another.

The first Vail Resorts-owned destination to open in Colorado will likely be Summit County's Keystone Resort. While an official opening date hasn't been set for Keystone quite yet, company representatives have stated that they're planning to get lifts spinning sometime in mid-October, pending early season conditions. An October opening would put Keystone among the first resorts to open in the Centennial State, with other contenders for the claim typically including Arapahoe Basin, Loveland Ski Area, and Wolf Creek Ski Area.

Meanwhile, here's a look at when other Vail Resorts-operated spots plan to open, including a few out-of-state destinations:

  • November 8: Breckenridge (CO)
  • November 15: Vail Mountain (CO)
  • November 22: Whistler Blackcomb (British Columbia), Heavenly (CA), Northstar (CA), Park City Mountain (UT)
  • November 27: Beaver Creek (CO), Crested Butte (CO)
  • December 6: Kirkwood (CA), Stevens Pass (WA)

Vail Resorts also announced that skiers and riders have until September 2 to purchase Epic Pass products before a price increase. The full Epic Pass, which includes access to more than 80 resorts worldwide, is currently priced at $1,004.

Perhaps more appealing to Coloradans who don't plan on traveling, the Epic Local Pass costs $746 and offers unlimited access to 29 resorts, including Colorado's Breckenridge, Keystone, and Crested Butte. It also comes with days that can be used at Vail and Beaver Creek.

A third option that's perfect for someone only planning to hit the slopes for a few days is the Epic Day Pass, which is priced at $44 to $95 per day – up to a 65% discount compared to in-season prices.

It's also worth noting that Epic Pass purchasers get access to a variety of related discounts, including up to 35% off of room rates during the Winter Getaway Sale.
