Lakewood Police are investigating a shooting near the corner of Alameda and Owens. "Both a suspect and agent were shot. Both were taken to the hospital. Please avoid the area," according to a LPD tweet.

Update: One female suspect is dead, shot by a Lakewood agent, and another was apprehended last night after an afternoon shoot-out at a Grease Monkey. The two girls, who are not being identified because of their ages, were caught robbing a postal worker at gunpoint in the 400 block of South Oak. The mail carrier got away and called 911, Lakewood police said.

The girls then ran a block away to the auto shop at 10880 West Alameda Ave where gunfire was exchanged.

The agent's injuries were not life threatening, and he is expected to recover, Lakewood Police said. One suspect died at the hospital and the other was apprehended in Frederick by ATF agents and Lakewood police.

Because of dangerous police activity, four Jefferson County public schools were put under secure status, but the students were in the process of going home for the day, according to Jeffco Public Schools spokesperson Kimberly Elio. The four schools were:

  • Glennon Heights Elementary
  • Dennison Elementary
  • Green Mountain Elementary
  • Fletcher Middle School
