As 50 of the world's top golfers head to Castle Pines Golf Club on Tuesday, Douglas County authorities are warning residents of traffic impacts.
This year’s PGA BMW Championship heads to one of Colorado’s most noted golf clubs. Located 25 miles south of Denver, the 42-year-old Castle Pines Golf Club expects to host thousands of golf fans. This is one of the more important tournaments in the PGA Tour and FedExCup Playoff series.
Last year’s BMW Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois drew over 120,000 spectators, according to the BMW group.
Because of this, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office officials warn of traffic reroutes in and around Castle Pines for spectators and traveling locals.
Between Tuesday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 25, the five-day tournament will shut down portions of Happy Canyon Road, which will have restricted access daily from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office shared area traffic impacts in detail:
- Beginning Monday, there will be no through traffic on Happy Canyon Road between Lagae Road and Santa Fe Drive (U.S. 85).
- There is no public/general parking available in the immediate vicinity of Castle Pines Golf Club. All vehicles on Happy Canyon Road must have the proper credentials.
Parking will be made available at other satellite lots. Parking registration costs $30 and can be purchased with a ticket:
- G-LOT: Located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Santa Fe Drive (U.S. 85) and North Daniels Park Road. Lot is available between Tuesday and Sunday.
- J-LOT: Located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, this lot is available Thursday, Aug. 22 and Friday, Aug. 23.
- L-LOT: Located at Castle View High School, this lot is available Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25.
