Police are investigating a prank that prompted a shots fired call and reportedly sent people fleeing from the Colorado Mills mall on Saturday, the Lakewood Police Department said on social media.

Police said officers responded around 5:40 p.m. to a call for shots fired, cleared the mall and found no gun had been fired.

Police said their initial investigation found that "a group of juveniles were attempting to prank a friend by pouring a jug of milk on their head. The jug slipped and made a loud noise when it hit the ground."

People on social media, including in the comment sections of the Lakewood Police Department's posts on Facebook and X, however, described a different, more chaotic scene: terrified people running out of the mall after a group of people in ski masks started yelling, jumping on tables in the food court, and pouring the milk on themselves. Some users report that group was filming themselves.

Police said no injures were reported; no additional information about the incident was provided Saturday night.
